Organizing Motion
If there were an end point in riding, it could be the ongoing capacity to control one's body for the purpose of influencing your horse’s balance and confidence.
I am a lifelong student of movement and a movement educator. My visual discernment for movement details began in ballet class, long ago and has continued as I have found new ways of observing movement. The class I am offering is to promote inquiry into the practice of perception through curiosity and openness to sensations. When we apply these ideas to the art of riding we are looking for finer performance with our horse through awareness of our shared dimensionality.
By consciously using muscle contractions with slow movements, joints are strengthened and the central nervous system is stimulated. The amount of usable motion one possesses is a function of mobility, meaning controllable range of movement. It will fun to introduce and play with movements that strengthen the muscles around the joints using internal force (isometrics). This is the exciting idea of training muscles and joints to sustain an organized body, not only while riding but through out daily activities.
My workshop concepts and exercises are inspired by my training in traditional ballet and dressage and with the new, scientifically driven ideas of Feldenkrais, Functional Range Conditioning and Wholebody Focusing that link our movement to our neurology.
